093_HR0022 LRB093 05021 KEF 05080 r 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives were saddened to learn of the recent death of 4 Mother Addie Jones of East St. Louis; and 5 WHEREAS, Mother Jones was born on September 8, 1923 to 6 Richard and Sarah Ratliff in Swift-town, Mississippi; she met 7 and married Hardin Jones Sr. in 1937, and to this union 8 eleven children were born; and 9 WHEREAS, Mother Jones and her family relocated to 10 Doddsville, Mississippi where she joined the Gilfield 11 Missionary Baptist Church; she served on the Mother's Board 12 and the Mission Board until she moved to East St. Louis in 13 1984; she united with Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church and 14 served faithfully; and 15 WHEREAS, Mother Jones leaves a strong Christian family to 16 follow after her and pull together as one as the Bible says 17 in the 23rd Psalm: 18 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh 19 me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside 20 the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in 21 the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, 22 though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, 23 I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and 24 thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before 25 me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my 26 head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and 27 mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will 28 dwell in the house of the LORD for ever; and 29 WHEREAS, Her passing will be deeply felt by all who knew 30 and loved her, especially her three sons, Eddie (Judi) Jones, 31 Rosco (Emma) Jones, and Henry (Sherry) Jones; her seven 32 daughters, Mahalia Wilson, Ellen (Joe) Pittman, Betty (Henry) -2- LRB093 05021 KEF 05080 r 1 Campbell, Gracie (Larnell) Robinson, Bessie, Hallie, and 2 Addie; her adopted son, Reverend Darryl L. Hughes; her four 3 sisters and four brothers; her 29 grandchildren; her 70 4 great-grandchildren; her 24 great-great-grandchildren; and a 5 host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives; and 6 WHEREAS, Mother Jones was preceded in death by her 7 parents, Richard and Sarah Ratliff; and her husband, Hardin 8 Jones, Sr.; therefore, be it 9 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 10 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 11 we mourn the death of Mother Addie Jones, along with all who 12 knew and loved her, and extend our sincere condolences to all 13 her family and friends; and be it further 14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 15 delivered to the family of Mother Addie Jones.
