 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        Whereas, Herbert Leo Kadden was born in  Berlin,  Germany
 3    in 1923 to his loving parents, Mendel and Margarete; and

 4        Whereas,  His  father  inspired  in  Herb a keen sense of
 5    civic obligation through his  work  as  a  social  and  youth
 6    worker in Berlin; and

 7        Whereas,  His  mother,  a photographer whose portraits of
 8    people  and  of  nature,  captured  Herb's  imagination   and
 9    awakened him to the glories of art; and

10        Whereas,  Herb  was  privileged to witness the triumph of
11    the human spirit through Jesse Owens' victories at  the  1936
12    Olympic Games in Berlin; and

13        Whereas,  Herb  was later forced to become a refugee from
14    the totalitarian evil that came to dominate Europe  in  1939;
15    and

16        Whereas,   Through  the  kindness  of  relatives  he  was
17    eventually reunited with his parents in America; and

18        Whereas, In gratitude to his new country he  enlisted  in
19    the  United  States  Army  and served with distinction in the
20    Signal Corps from 1943-1945 during World War II, earning  the
21    rank of sergeant; and

22        Whereas, Herb returned to the United States after the war
23    and  married  Leah  Molton  in 1950 and was blessed with more
24    than 50 wonderful years of marriage; and

25        Whereas, Herb and Leah became the proud parents of Daniel
26    and Stephanie and instilled in them the values that make good
27    citizens and build strong communities; and

28        Whereas, Herb Kadden provided for his family  and  earned
29    the  trust,  respect,  and  affection  of  his  many  clients

 1    throughout  Indiana  and  the  Chicago region during his more
 2    than 45 year career as a salesman; and

 3        Whereas, Herb and  Leah  were  later  blessed  with  five
 4    grandchildren, Joseph, Zachary, Tamara, Amalia and Sigal; and

 5        Whereas,    Herb   endeavored   to   inculcate   in   his
 6    grandchildren the requisites of how  to  live  a  good  life,
 7    persist   at   what  is  meaningful  and  respect  and  value
 8    humanity's diversity; and

 9        Whereas, Herb was a devoted father  and  grandfather  who
10    savored   his   grandchildren's  many  accomplishments,  even
11    busting his buttons from time to time, and was an active part
12    of their lives; and

13        Whereas, Herb maintained a lifelong curiosity  about  the
14    world  and never stopped learning, reading widely in history,
15    politics, philosophy  and  the  arts;  he  enjoyed  Chicago's
16    cultural  resources,  its  galleries, museums, and historical
17    places; and

18        Whereas, He was a dedicated participant in the civic  and
19    cultural life of his beloved Hyde Park; and

20        Whereas,  Herb's commitment to political reform stretched
21    from the 1948 Presidential campaign of Henry Wallace  through
22    his  work  with  the  Independent  Voters  of Illinois to his
23    leadership in numerous  state  representatives,  senate,  and
24    aldermanic races; and

25        Whereas, Herb was a devoted member of Congregation Rodfei
26    Zedek in Hyde Park for fifty years; and

27        Whereas,  The country, state, city and community in which
28    he lived have lost a remarkable individual who truly made the
29    world a better place; therefore, be it

 1        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
 2    NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 3    we mourn the death of Herbert Leo Kadden along with  all  who
 4    knew and loved him, and extend our sincere condolences to his
 5    family and friends; and be it further

 6        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
 7    presented to the family  of  Herb  Kadden  with  our  deepest
 8    sympathy.
