| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois wish to thank the Hinsdale Junior Woman's |
| 4 |
| Club for its work supporting the Gus Foundation and its efforts |
| 5 |
| to find a cure and treatment for pediatric brain tumors, the |
| 6 |
| leading cause of cancer-related deaths of children; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, The Gus Foundation was co-founded in 1995 by |
| 8 |
| Eleanor Evangelides after her 21 month old son, Gus, died from |
| 9 |
| a pediatric brain tumor; the Foundation funds research for |
| 10 |
| pediatric brain tumors through a partnership with the |
| 11 |
| Children's Memorial Medical Center in Chicago; funds raised by |
| 12 |
| the Gus Foundation are critical to furthering that research |
| 13 |
| since pediatric cancers currently only receive three percent of |
| 14 |
| the national funding for cancer research and brain tumor |
| 15 |
| research receives only a portion of that; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, On February 21, 2004, the Hinsdale Junior Woman's |
| 17 |
| Club will be conducting a major benefit for the Gus Foundation; |
| 18 |
| the celebration will feature speaker Jill Conner Brown, the |
| 19 |
| well-known New York Times best-selling author of the Sweet |
| 20 |
| Potato Queen books; last year, the benefit generated over |
| 21 |
| $112,000 for the Gus Foundation; and
|
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, The Hinsdale Junior Woman's Club is an affiliate |
| 23 |
| of the General Federation of Woman's Clubs, an international |
| 24 |
| organization, and is dedicated to community improvement by |
| 25 |
| enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service; its |
| 26 |
| purpose is to offer members a network of resources and |
| 27 |
| opportunities while serving as a leader of volunteer and |
| 28 |
| philanthropic service; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
