| HOUSE RESOLUTION |
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of
|
| 3 |
| the State of Illinois wish to honor Elvia Lee Steward on the
|
| 4 |
| occasion of her retirement and recognize her countless hours
of |
| 5 |
| community service; and |
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, In her capacity as an employee, Elvia Lee
Steward |
| 7 |
| served well the mentally ill individuals who resided
at the |
| 8 |
| former Manteno Mental Health Center; and |
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, In addition to the loving care Elvia provided
|
| 10 |
| those residents, she was an unrelenting advocate on behalf of
|
| 11 |
| her co-workers when she served as steward, negotiator, and
|
| 12 |
| officer of AFSCME Local 1563; and |
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Upon her retirement, she continued her lifetime
|
| 14 |
| of activism, serving as chairperson of her AFSCME Retiree
|
| 15 |
| sub-chapter as well as Statewide officer for the Retirees;
and |
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, A loyal member of the Democratic Party, she
|
| 17 |
| served as Pembroke Township precinct committeewoman; and |
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, From 1989 to 1997, she was twice elected as
|
| 19 |
| Township Clerk of Pembroke Township; and |
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, Throughout her life, Ms. Steward has
demonstrated |
| 21 |
| the same kind of compassion and commitment in
her workplace as |
| 22 |
| she has demonstrated in the community she served so
selflessly; |
| 23 |
| therefore, be it |
| 24 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
|
| 25 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
we |
| 26 |
| express our best wishes to Elvia Lee Steward on the
occasion of |
| 27 |
| her retirement, and we thank her for her
countless hours of |

| service to the community; and be it
