| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The Illinois State Board of Education in the last |
| 3 |
| four years has paid the lobbying firm of Barbour, Griffith, and |
| 4 |
| Rogers Inc. $974,300; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, The Illinois State Board of Education currently |
| 6 |
| maintains a $240,000 lobbying contract with Barbour, Griffith, |
| 7 |
| and Rogers Inc.; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, The Illinois State Board of Education has used |
| 9 |
| funds that were appropriated for educational purposes to pay |
| 10 |
| the contract and has failed to adequately justify these |
| 11 |
| expenses; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, The funds could be better utilized educating the |
| 13 |
| students of Illinois; and
|
| 14 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 15 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 16 |
| do formally call on the Illinois State Board of Education to |
| 17 |
| cancel its lobbying contract with Barbour, Griffith, and Rogers |
| 18 |
| Inc.; and be it further
|
| 19 |
| RESOLVED, That the Illinois State Board of Education |
| 20 |
| refrain from entering into future contracts for the purpose of |
| 21 |
| lobbying the federal or State government without the express |
| 22 |
| consent of the General Assembly through the regular budget |
| 23 |
| process; and be it further
|
| 24 |
| RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be |
| 25 |
| delivered to the Chairman of the Illinois State Board of |
| 26 |
| Education and the Superintendent of Education.
