| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives offer our sincere congratulations to William | ||||||
| 4 | and Charlotte Ralston for being the recipients of the Elmhurst | ||||||
| 5 | Jaycees' 2004 Distinguished Service Award; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Bill and Charlotte have been committed to each | ||||||
| 7 | other and their community for more than 50 years; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Bill and Charlotte are residents of Elmhurst who | ||||||
| 9 | have given their time and energy to improve the community; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, The Ralstons have been active members of the First | ||||||
| 11 | Congregational Church of Christ since 1960; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Bill served three three-year terms on the | ||||||
| 13 | Diaconate, three three-year terms on the Board of Trustees, and | ||||||
| 14 | serves as an usher and greeter at the church; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Charlotte serves as the Chairman of the Library | ||||||
| 16 | Committee at the Church; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Bill was a Navy pilot in World War II and flew | ||||||
| 18 | Lockheed PV-1 Ventura bombers from 1942 to 1946; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, He also served as the Crew Chief for the 146th | ||||||
| 20 | Bomber Squadron and saw action in the South Pacific; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Since serving his country in battle, Bill has been | ||||||
| 22 | a tireless supporter of all veterans through his Life | ||||||
| 23 | Membership of both Elmhurst American Legion T.H.B. Post 187 and | ||||||
| 24 | Elmhurst Veterans of Foreign Wars Walter A. Glos Post 2048; and
| ||||||
| 25 | WHEREAS, Charlotte is a member of the Elmhurst American | ||||||
| 26 | Legion Auxiliary Sunshine and Memorial Committee, which sends | ||||||
| |||||||
|
|||||||
| 1 | cards and gifts to Legion members who are ill; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Bill is the founding member of the Elmhurst | ||||||
| 3 | Veterans Memorial Commission and played a key role in the | ||||||
| 4 | creation of the Elmhurst Veterans Memorial in Wilder Park; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, He was appointed in 1988 to a position with the | ||||||
| 6 | Selective Service System by former Governor James R. Thompson, | ||||||
| 7 | and he currently serves as Chairman of the DuPage County Area; | ||||||
| 8 | and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Bill has also served as an Addison Township | ||||||
| 10 | Precinct Committeeman for 16 years; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, The Ralstons created, painted, and installed 40 | ||||||
| 12 | wooden crosses at the Elmhurst Veterans Memorial as a small | ||||||
| 13 | Arlington cemetery to help remember those who have died for | ||||||
| 14 | their country; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, The Ralstons have constantly put the needs of | ||||||
| 16 | others above their own; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Their dedication to community service is a source | ||||||
| 18 | of inspiration to the entire community and State; therefore, be | ||||||
| 19 | it
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 21 | NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 22 | offer our congratulations to William and Charlotte Ralston for | ||||||
| 23 | being the recipients of the Elmhurst Jaycees' 2004 | ||||||
| 24 | Distinguished Service Award; and be it further
| ||||||
| 25 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 26 | presented to William and Charlotte Ralston as an expression of | ||||||
| 27 | our esteem.
