| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Patricia |
| 4 |
| Susan O'Brien of Chicago on Sunday, February 15, 2004; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Patricia Susan O'Brien grew up in Oak Park and |
| 6 |
| Chicago; she graduated from high school a year early, in 1971; |
| 7 |
| she received a degree in special education from Loretta Heights |
| 8 |
| College in Denver; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Ms. O'Brien lived in Melbourne, Australia, |
| 10 |
| working as a special education teacher and part-time model and |
| 11 |
| in Naples, Florida, working in real estate; she returned to |
| 12 |
| Chicago and was a consultant at a solid-waste-disposal company, |
| 13 |
| when she began researching what became her passion, the |
| 14 |
| legalization of industrial hemp; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, In 1996, Ms. O'Brien opened a store called |
| 16 |
| O'Fields in Old Town that was dedicated to a variety of |
| 17 |
| products made from hemp, including clothing, hats, soaps, and |
| 18 |
| housewares; she was a driving force behind two pieces of |
| 19 |
| legislation mandating research into industrial hemp; the bills |
| 20 |
| were vetoed, but she continued her fight; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Patricia Susan O'Brien has been |
| 22 |
| deeply felt by many, especially her sons, Jeffrey and Daniel |
| 23 |
| Mandalis; her granddaughter, Emma Rose; her parents, Mary D. |
| 24 |
| and Daniel P. O'Brien Sr.; and her siblings, Maureen O'Brien, |
| 25 |
| Peggy (Richard) Schulze, and Peter (Mimi) O'Brien; she was a |
| 26 |
| beloved aunt and cousin to many and will be greatly missed by |
| 27 |
| her many dear friends; and
|
| 28 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
