| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives wish to recognize Firefighter Matt Grosskopf |
| 4 |
| of Mt. Vernon for his courage and selflessness in the line of |
| 5 |
| duty; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, On December 26, 2003, a house fire broke out in |
| 7 |
| Mt. Vernon; when the firefighters first arrived, they were |
| 8 |
| informed that someone was still inside; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, John Calvert was trapped by the fire and |
| 10 |
| unconscious in a bathroom of the home; as firefighters were |
| 11 |
| getting ready to advance a hose into the home, Firefighter |
| 12 |
| Grosskopf, disregarding his own safety, entered the house alone |
| 13 |
| to search for Mr. Calvert; after several minutes inside with no |
| 14 |
| visibility and incredibly high temperatures, he emerged from |
| 15 |
| the furiously burning home with Mr. Calvert; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Calvert was treated and released from the |
| 17 |
| hospital two days later due mostly to having been found and |
| 18 |
| saved so quickly; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Firefighter Grosskopf showed personal courage and |
| 20 |
| dedication in the face of danger and went above and beyond the |
| 21 |
| call of duty risking his life to save another; therefore, be it
|
| 22 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 23 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 24 |
| honor Firefighter Matt Grosskopf for his outstanding bravery |
| 25 |
| and selflessness in the line of duty for citizens of this |
| 26 |
| State; and be it further
|
| 27 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 28 |
| presented to Firefighter Matt Grosskopf as a token of our |
| 29 |
| respect and esteem.
