| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to honor citizens of the State |
4 |
| who have made significant contributions in their field; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Alice Jayne Swickard taught music at Carl Sandburg |
6 |
| Elementary School in Charleston from 1969 to 1972; she served |
7 |
| as the music teacher at Charleston High School and Charleston |
8 |
| Junior High School from 1978 to 1992; during that period, she |
9 |
| directed before and after school choruses and swing choirs at |
10 |
| both schools; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, From 1986 to 1992 and 1999 to 2000, she was the |
12 |
| director of the spring musical at Charleston High School; her |
13 |
| husband, Dave, worked with her on these musicals, building sets |
14 |
| for nearly every production; during that time, she directed |
15 |
| Nights on Broadway, The Music Man, South Pacific, Oklahoma, The |
16 |
| Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof (2 times), Bye Bye Birdie, |
17 |
| Anything Goes, Carousel, My Fair Lady (2 times), and Annie Get |
18 |
| Your Gun; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, Prior to 1991, Mrs. Swickard served at Wesley |
20 |
| United Methodist Church as a choral director for many years; |
21 |
| from 1991 to 2000, she was a Music Associate at Wesley United |
22 |
| Methodist Church, directing all of the youth and adult choirs |
23 |
| and church music, and she was also the assistant organist and |
24 |
| organist; and
|
25 |
| WHEREAS, Throughout her life in Charleston, Mrs. Swickard |
26 |
| taught piano; she and her daughter shared a music studio, |
27 |
| Studio 88; she generously provided accompaniment at churches, |
28 |
| schools, funerals, weddings, and recitals throughout the |
29 |
| community; and
|
30 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Swickard is married to Dave and is the mother |
