| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives wish to congratulate Rabbi Meir Shapiro on his |
| 4 |
| retirement after 40 years as school principal of the Arie Crown |
| 5 |
| Hebrew Day School in Skokie; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Rabbi Meir and his wife, Elizabeth Shapiro, have |
| 7 |
| not only played a pivotal role in the development of Arie Crown |
| 8 |
| as one of the most successful institutions in the country, they |
| 9 |
| have had an enormous effect upon the educational and spiritual |
| 10 |
| growth of the entire Chicago Jewish Community as well; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Shapiro has been an officer, teacher, |
| 12 |
| consultant, and supervisor at Arie Crown and remains in the |
| 13 |
| forefront of Torah education in Chicago; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, For the past 40 years, Rabbi Shapiro welcomed Arie |
| 15 |
| Crown students at the doors of the school every morning, |
| 16 |
| greeting each one by name; he encouraged every student to |
| 17 |
| maximize his or her growth, while he strengthened parents and |
| 18 |
| teachers to work for the betterment of their children and |
| 19 |
| talmidim; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, He has strongly guided the school in moving to |
| 21 |
| bigger and better facilities, from Albany Park to the building |
| 22 |
| of today in Skokie; he has influenced thousands of graduates |
| 23 |
| from Arie Crown as well as their parents; he has a special |
| 24 |
| relationship with each and is still known as "Rebbe" years |
| 25 |
| after graduation; and
|
| 26 |
| WHEREAS, On June 6, 2004, in respectful recognition and |
| 27 |
| admiration of Rabbi Meir and Elizabeth Shapiro's contributions |
| 28 |
| to Arie Crown Hebrew Day School and the Chicago Jewish |
| 29 |
| Community, a magnificent Sefer Torah will be presented as a |
| 30 |
| gift to the Shapiros at the gala Hachnosas Sefer Torah; |
