| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois learned with great sorrow of the death of Dr. |
| 4 |
| Jacob H. Carruthers at the age of 73; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Jacob Carruthers was an academic of great insight, |
| 6 |
| intellect, compassion, and pride; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Carruthers was a man of letters, author of |
| 8 |
| several scholarly treatises and books that redefined the study |
| 9 |
| of African Americans in the urban environment; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Jacob Carruthers was a champion of |
| 11 |
| African-Centered Thought and Community-Centered learning; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Carruthers was a founder and professor of |
| 13 |
| history and education at the Center for Inner City Studies of |
| 14 |
| Northeastern Illinois University for 32 years; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Carruthers pioneered and refined academic |
| 16 |
| theories and influenced generations of students who sought |
| 17 |
| careers working in the urban environment of the inner city; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, Jacob Carruthers was a leader of leaders, guiding |
| 19 |
| and advising businessmen, ministers, State senators and |
| 20 |
| representatives, mothers and fathers; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Jacob Carruthers proudly served his country in the |
| 22 |
| United States Air Force during the Korean War; and
|
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, Jacob Carruthers graciously and generously served |
| 24 |
| the African-American community and mankind; therefore, be it
|
| 25 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
