| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Thornton |
| 4 |
| Fractional South High School's winter guard on winning its |
| 5 |
| fourth straight State title in the Class AA long-flag |
| 6 |
| competition; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, The team defeated 3 other schools in the finals, |
| 8 |
| scoring an 89 for a routine performed to music from "Pirates of |
| 9 |
| the Caribbean"; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, The winter guard, known as the color guard in fall |
| 11 |
| competition, utilizes flags to perform routines to recorded |
| 12 |
| music; the long-flag competition is divided into 6 classes, |
| 13 |
| based on the size of each school's enrollment; a total of 132 |
| 14 |
| teams competed in a variety of events at the winter guard State |
| 15 |
| finals at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, The coach of the winter guard team is Carolyn |
| 17 |
| Olson; she became coach of the winter guard during the |
| 18 |
| 2000-2001 school year, and the team has taken first place in |
| 19 |
| the event each year since; therefore, be it
|
| 20 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 21 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 22 |
| congratulate Thornton Fractional South High School's winter |
| 23 |
| guard on winning its fourth straight State title in the Class |
| 24 |
| AA long-flag competition; and be it further
|

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 26 |
| presented to the winter guard team of Thornton Fractional South |
| 27 |
| High School as an expression of our esteem.
