HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois learned with regret of the death in Iraq of
4 U.S. Army National Guard Sergeant Landis Garrison of Rapids
5 City on Thursday, April 29, 2004; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Landis Garrison was born on January 8, 1981, in
7 Moline to Randy and Leah Garrison; he was a 1999 graduate of
8 Riverdale High School; and
 
9     WHEREAS, While in school, Landis was involved in Cub Scouts
10 Den 4 Pack 304 in Port Byron; he was an East Moline Police
11 Explorer with Post 9594 and achieved the rank of Captain; while
12 still in high school, he joined the Port Byron Fire Department;
13 he was a volunteer with the Department of Children and Family
14 Services as a mentor; he was involved in the family businesses
15 of Quality Repair Inc., Quality Snow Removal, and Quality
16 Trucking Inc., all in Colona; he was employed part time at
17 Grisham's Towing Service in Hampton; and he was a part time
18 police officer for the Hampton Police Department; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Sergeant Garrison attended several Fire College
20 classes while with the Port Byron Fire Department and was
21 completing police training with the Hampton Police Department
22 before departure to Iraq; he was deployed on February 9, 2003,
23 and left for Iraq in April; and
 
24     WHEREAS, Sergeant Garrison graduated boot camp and AIT at
25 Fort Leonard Wood on March 31, 2000, Company A 795th MP
26 Battalion; he was assigned most recently with the Army National
27 Guard Unit, 333rd Military Police Company of Freeport; while
28 with the 333rd, he helped with the Quad City Flood of 2001 and
29 served airport security duty after September 11, 2001, at
30 Chicago O'Hare and Peoria airports for several months; he
31 completed training with the 333rd in Germany and Nicaragua; and

1     WHEREAS, Sergeant Garrison loved life and a good challenge,
2 family, friends, and flashing lights, the more the better; he
3 was an avid WLLR country music fan, enjoyed line dancing, and
4 was a John Deere toy collector, both big and small; he loved
5 working at the shop, driving semis, running heavy equipment,
6 and especially plowing snow; he was proud to serve his country,
7 fellow officers, and help people of all walks of life; and
 
8     WHEREAS, The passing of Sergeant Landis Garrison has been
9 deeply felt by many, especially his parents, Randy and Leah
10 Garrison; his brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and April
11 Musser; his sister and brother-in-law, Amber and Bradley
12 Peterson; his grandparents, Landis and Elizabeth Garrison,
13 Lela Roselieb, and Sally Musser; his uncles and aunts, Mike and
14 Cindy Garrison, Jeff and Pam Miller, Rick and Pat Edie, Darrell
15 and Marilyn Roselieb, Jerry Roselieb, and David and Georgia
16 Cooper; his many cousins; his two very special nephews, Hayden
17 Musser and Brady Peterson; his secondary family, John, Trena,
18 Tony, Jessica, and Adam DeCap; and his many other special
19 friends; therefore, be it
 
20     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
22 mourn the passing of U.S. Army National Guard Sergeant Landis
23 Garrison, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family,
24 friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
25     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Sergeant Landis
26 Garrison and his willingness to serve our country which led to
27 him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
28     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
29 presented to the family of Sergeant Landis Garrison as an
30 expression of our sincere condolences.
