| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives were saddened to learn that Army Rangers |
| 4 |
| specialist Pat Tillman died on a mission in southeastern |
| 5 |
| Afghanistan on April 22, 2004; and |
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Pat Tillman was nationally known as a consummate |
| 7 |
| student-athlete playing football as a linebacker for Arizona |
| 8 |
| State University and graduating summa cum laude in 1997 with a |
| 9 |
| degree in marketing; and |
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Pat Tillman went on to play in the National |
| 11 |
| Football League as a linebacker with the Arizona Cardinals and |
| 12 |
| later played safety, setting a Cardinal franchise record for |
| 13 |
| tackles with 223; and |
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, The September 11, 2001 attacks on the United |
| 15 |
| States motivated Tillman to leave a promising career in |
| 16 |
| professional football to serve his nation in Operation Enduring |
| 17 |
| Freedom; and |
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, Twenty-seven year-old Tillman served as an Army |
| 19 |
| Rangers specialist in the 75th Ranger Regiment, a light |
| 20 |
| infantry unit out of Fort Benning, Georgia in which Tillman's |
| 21 |
| brother is also a member; and |
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, Pat Tillman was killed during an ambush on a |
| 23 |
| coalition combat patrol near the village of Sperah in |
| 24 |
| Afghanistan; and

| WHEREAS, The passing of Pat Tillman will be deeply felt by |
| 26 |
| many, and he will be remembered for his willingness to serve |
| 27 |
| our country, which led him to make the ultimate sacrifice and |
| 28 |
| be a role model and inspiration to others; therefore, be it
