| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Each year during May, the nation observes Older |
| 3 |
| Americans Month to recognize the older adults in our |
| 4 |
| communities; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, This year, the Administration on Aging has |
| 6 |
| selected a theme, "Aging Well, Living Well," which serves to |
| 7 |
| celebrate and recognize older Americans who are living longer, |
| 8 |
| healthier, and more productive lives; older persons are not |
| 9 |
| only adding years to their lives, they are also improving the |
| 10 |
| quality of their lives; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, According to the Administration on Aging, in |
| 12 |
| addition to achieving a healthier lifestyle, older persons must |
| 13 |
| also take steps to prepare for later life; these steps include |
| 14 |
| understanding housing and long-term care options; gaining |
| 15 |
| financial literacy and knowledge of retirement pension and |
| 16 |
| benefits; and seeking opportunities for community |
| 17 |
| participation and social engagement, including access to |
| 18 |
| employment, volunteer, educational, and leisure activities; |
| 19 |
| and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, In honor of Older Americans Month, Clinton County |
| 21 |
| will be hosting Older Americans Day on May 20, 2004 at the |
| 22 |
| Senior Center in Carlyle; therefore, be it
|
| 23 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 24 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 25 |
| recognize May as Older Americans Month and the efforts of the |
| 26 |
| Administration on Aging to promote healthier and more |
| 27 |
| productive lives for the elder citizens of this State; and be |
| 28 |
| it further
|
| 29 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 30 |
| presented to the Area Agency on Aging of Southwestern Illinois.
