HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to recognize Bramley Funeral Home in
4 Divernon on the occasion of its 80th anniversary on June 6th,
5 2004; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Charles R. (Bob) Bramley helped his father, the
7 late Chester (C.G.) Bramley, in the family's mortuary business
8 many years ago; at that time, he didn't know that he would
9 follow in his father's footsteps or that his son, Tim, and now
10 his granddaughter, Sarah, would follow in his; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Bob graduated from high school in 1939 and went to
12 work as a clerk for the C & IM Railroad; he served time in the
13 armed forces from 1942 to 1946; he was a Master Sergeant in the
14 Army Medical Corp; in 1947, he attended mortuary school in St.
15 Louis and graduated in 1948; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Bob married Carolyn on December 27, 1947; he
17 worked in the business with his father until his father passed
18 away in 1967; and
 
19     WHEREAS, The Bramley's also operated an ambulance service
20 for many years but discontinued the service in 1981; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Tim Bramley went to mortuary school in Carbondale
22 and received his license in 1979; he then went to work at Bisch
23 Funeral Home in Springfield for 13 years and during that time,
24 he helped his dad as well; and
 
25     WHEREAS, The Bramleys purchased the former First Midwest
26 building in Auburn in 1991 and opened their Auburn location in
27 June 4, 1991; at that time, Tim left Bisch Funeral Home to work
28 with his father full time; and

1     WHEREAS, Bob states that his wife, Carolyn, has always been
2 there in the background; her help and support have been
3 invaluable to him throughout the years; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Tim's daughter, Sarah, graduated from Carl
5 Sandburg Mortuary School in May, 2003 and is currently serving
6 her apprenticeship with her grandfather and dad; and
 
7     WHEREAS, In addition to the family's business, Bob worked
8 for the Postal Service for 22 years, kept the Divernon School
9 District's books for 30 years, was Village treasurer for 49
10 years, and served as secretary and treasurer for the Divernon
11 Fire Protection District for many years; he is currently
12 secretary and treasurer of the Brush Creek Cemetery Board, a
13 position be has held for 45 years; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Mr. Bramley feels strongly about providing this
15 service to the community even though being in a small town is
16 difficult because everyone who passes away is your friend; he
17 has dedicated his whole life to the community; therefore, be it
 
18     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
20 declare June 6th, 2004, as "Bob Bramley Day", and we
21 congratulate the Bramleys on their 80th anniversary of Bramley
22 Funeral Home and their dedication to the community; and be it
23 further
 
24     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
25 presented to Mr. Bob Bramley as a token of our respect.
