| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
3 |
| State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Fredric |
4 |
| C. Olds of Prospect Heights, on Saturday, April 24, 2004; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Fredric C. Olds was born on May 22, 1916, in |
6 |
| Lansing, Michigan; he valiantly served his country in the U.S. |
7 |
| Navy during World War II; he played on the football team at the |
8 |
| University of Michigan from 1936 to 1939; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Olds was an experienced mechanical engineer as |
10 |
| well as the executive editor for Power Engineering Magazine; he |
11 |
| was recognized as an international expert on nuclear power and |
12 |
| traveled extensively throughout the world giving talks and |
13 |
| presentations on this subject; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Olds was a founding father and alderman of |
15 |
| Prospect Heights; he and his wife, Nancy, joined the Prospect |
16 |
| Heights Improvement Association (PHIA) around 1970; Mrs. Olds |
17 |
| used her writing skills and became the editor of the Prospect |
18 |
| Heights Town Bulletin in 1973, and Mr. Olds enjoyed taking |
19 |
| pictures and became the Town Bulletin photographer; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, As a member of the PHIA, Mr. Olds was head of the |
21 |
| Environmental Action Force, which addressed developmental |
22 |
| activities in and around the Prospect Heights community, many |
23 |
| of which could have had a negative impact on the environment; |
24 |
| he saw the wisdom of incorporating Prospect Heights and |
25 |
| participated in educating the public on these benefits; he led |
26 |
| discussions at neighborhood resident meetings regarding |
27 |
| incorporation; and
|
28 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Olds was elected to serve as an Alderman on |
29 |
| the first City Council; he was appointed to serve as Chairman |
30 |
| of the Building Committee; his committee established the basis |
