| WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Valerie Ross of |
| 3 |
| Champaign, daughter of Brian Ross and Cheri Sullivan, has been |
| 4 |
| named a member of the Chicago Tribune Illinois High School |
| 5 |
| All-State Academic Team; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Miss Ross is a 16-year-old senior of the |
| 7 |
| University of Illinois
Laboratory High School in Urbana and |
| 8 |
| plans to attend Stanford
University in the fall of 2004; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Miss Ross has written two plays "Don't Come Home |
| 10 |
| Early" and "It's
News to Me", both of which were performed at |
| 11 |
| the University of Illinois
Laboratory High School; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Miss Ross has earned straight A grades all through |
| 13 |
| high school; she scored a perfect 1600 on the SAT college |
| 14 |
| entrance exam; she has taken four years of the Japanese |
| 15 |
| language and has won speech contests sponsored by the Japanese |
| 16 |
| Consulate in Chicago; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, The Chicago Tribune Illinois High School |
| 18 |
| All-State Academic Team is a prestigious award; Miss Ross |
| 19 |
| scored in tenth place out of the 272 students that entered the |
| 20 |
| competition; the decision was made by a panel of Illinois |
| 21 |
| educators, parents, and college admissions officers; and the |
| 22 |
| top ten winners each received a $2,000 scholarship; and
|
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, Valerie Ross is a deserving recipient of this |
| 24 |
| honor; her dedication to academic work, her motivation for |
| 25 |
| cultural advancement, and her contributions to art and |
| 26 |
| entertainment at such a young age are inspirational and |
| 27 |
| motivating; Miss Ross is a role model to both young and old who |
| 28 |
| seek to expand their knowledge through education; therefore be |
| 29 |
| it
