| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Reverend Hubert |
| 4 |
| D. Bankhead on receiving a 2004 Governor's Award for Unique |
| 5 |
| Achievement, which is awarded by the Department on Aging to |
| 6 |
| individuals who have made exceptional contributions on behalf |
| 7 |
| of older persons and their families in Illinois; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Reverend Bankhead was nominated by the Midland |
| 9 |
| Area Agency on Aging; he is the minister of Second Baptist |
| 10 |
| Church in Centralia; his ministry to the Centralia community |
| 11 |
| has been a well-recognized effort that has resulted in a |
| 12 |
| better, more caring community; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Reverend Bankhead instituted a soup and sandwich |
| 14 |
| ministry for the elderly, homeless, and hungry; he began a |
| 15 |
| wellness ministry to provide information and education on |
| 16 |
| staying healthy and has organized several health informational |
| 17 |
| fairs; he started an early morning service in the low-income |
| 18 |
| housing area and brings ministry to the people; he believes in |
| 19 |
| involving the entire community in meeting their health, |
| 20 |
| nutritional, and spiritual needs; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Reverend Bankhead is tireless in his efforts; he |
| 22 |
| is a Vietnam veteran, where he served as a helicopter pilot, |
| 23 |
| was shot down, and lost his legs; this has never deterred him |
| 24 |
| from teaching, helping others, and sharing God's love; |
| 25 |
| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 27 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 28 |
| congratulate Reverend Hubert D. Bankhead on receiving a 2004 |
| 29 |
| Governor's Award for Unique Achievement and we express our |
| 30 |
| gratitude for his many contributions to the community; and be |
