| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, On April 30, 2004, the State Board of Education |
| 3 |
| filed its Report
on Waiver of School Code Mandates with
the |
| 4 |
| Senate, the House of Representatives, and the Secretary of
|
| 5 |
| State of Illinois as required by Section 2-3.25g of the School
|
| 6 |
| Code; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Physical education is a critical need of children |
| 8 |
| in this State, especially for reasons related to childhood |
| 9 |
| obesity and diabetes; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, The State finds physical education to be of so |
| 11 |
| much value that the State has made physical education a core |
| 12 |
| requirement for all public elementary and secondary school |
| 13 |
| students, and this requirement should not be waived; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, The current process required of the General |
| 15 |
| Assembly to deny waivers of School Code mandates has made it |
| 16 |
| difficult to amend the proposed denials from the originating |
| 17 |
| chamber; therefore, be it
|
| 18 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 19 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 20 |
| encourage the State to end its practice of allowing waivers of |
| 21 |
| School Code mandates related to physical education.
