| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives wish to congratulate Captain Elton McClendon |
| 4 |
| on the occasion of his retirement from the Chicago Police |
| 5 |
| Department on May 15, 2004; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Captain McClendon was one of the first Field |
| 7 |
| Training Officer's for the Chicago Police Department; he was |
| 8 |
| promoted to Sergeant ranking 54 out of 8,000 applicants, he |
| 9 |
| attended and graduated from Northwestern University's School |
| 10 |
| of Command, and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant where he |
| 11 |
| placed number 4 within 600 finalists; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Captain McClendon attended Chicago State |
| 13 |
| University at the age of 55, earning his Bachelor's and |
| 14 |
| Master's degrees; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, He has been privileged to sit on a Blue Ribbon |
| 16 |
| Panel which initiated the present mandatory drug screening |
| 17 |
| process that the Chicago Police Department is currently using; |
| 18 |
| he was sent to Birmingham, Alabama, by the Department to sit on |
| 19 |
| an assessment panel where he interviewed applicants for the |
| 20 |
| position of Lieutenants in the Birmingham Police Department and |
| 21 |
| the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department; and
|
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, On May 13, 2004, a celebration in honor of Captain |
| 23 |
| McClendon retirement was held at South Shore Cultural Center in |
| 24 |
| Chicago; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 26 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 27 |
| congratulate Captain Elton McClendon on his retirement after 33 |
| 28 |
| faithful years with the Chicago Police Department; and we wish |
| 29 |
| him good health and happiness in all his future endeavors; and |
| 30 |
