2 | WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the | ||||||
3 | State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Richard | ||||||
4 | A. Brauer of Belleville on Tuesday, May 25, 2004; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Richard A. Brauer was born on August 28, 1928, in | ||||||
6 | Belleville to George and Lillian, nee Felts, Brauer; he | ||||||
7 | graduated from Belleville Township High School in 1945 and | ||||||
8 | attended St. Louis University; and | ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Mr. Brauer valiantly served his country in the | ||||||
10 | U.S. Army as a combat engineer in the Korean War; he married | ||||||
11 | Dorothy "Dottie", nee Rose, on July 6, 1968; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Mr. Brauer worked in the plastering business for | ||||||
13 | several years and also at Monsanto in Sauget; in 1973, his | ||||||
14 | mentor, Belleville Mayor Charles Nichols, asked him to run for | ||||||
15 | city clerk on his ticket; he served as city clerk from 1973 | ||||||
16 | until 1979, when he was elected mayor to finish the term of | ||||||
17 | Mayor Nichols; he proudly served as mayor of Belleville until | ||||||
18 | 1993; in his retirement, he served as both commissioner and | ||||||
19 | treasurer of the Public Building Commission of St. Clair | ||||||
20 | County; and | ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Mr. Brauer loved spending the winter months in | ||||||
22 | Orange Beach, Alabama, at the family condo, where he was | ||||||
23 | treasurer of the condo association; he was also a past | ||||||
24 | president of the Missouri Snowbirds Club, Gulf Shores, Alabama; | ||||||
25 | he loved his family, his city, his country, and his many | ||||||
26 | friends; and | ||||||
27 | WHEREAS, Mr. Brauer was co-founder and chairman emeritus of | ||||||
28 | Belleville Sister Cities, Inc.; a life member, past governor | ||||||
29 | and pilgrim of Belleville-Swansea Moose Lodge 1221; a member of | ||||||
30 | American Legion Belleville Post 58; and a life member of the |

1 | Veterans of Foreign Wars; he was active in St. Clair Masonic | ||||||
2 | Lodge 24, AF&AM, for 49 years; he was also a member of the | ||||||
3 | Knight Temple, the Royal Arch Masons of Illinois, and the Ainad | ||||||
4 | Temple Shriners; other memberships included the Korean War | ||||||
5 | Veterans Association, IMJIN chapter, the board of the 14th | ||||||
6 | Engineer Combat Battalion Association, the Plasterers Union, | ||||||
7 | the Eagles, South Side Improvement Association, the Historical | ||||||
8 | Society of St. Clair County, and the Genealogical Societies of | ||||||
9 | St. Louis and St. Clair County; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, The passing of Richard A. Brauer has been deeply | ||||||
11 | felt by many, especially his wife, Dorothy "Dottie"; his | ||||||
12 | brothers and sisters, Kenneth (Jean) Brauer, Betty (Marshall) | ||||||
13 | Hartman, Marilyn (Don) Ackerman, Bill (Betty) Brauer, and | ||||||
14 | Barbara (Bill) Meier; his foster brother, Don (Sue) Frazier; | ||||||
15 | his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Audrey Brauer, Carol | ||||||
16 | Brauer, Tom (Ruth) Rose, Jeanne (Jim) Koechling, Theresa (Gene) | ||||||
17 | Boyet, Marcella Rose, Richard (Shirley) Rose, Betty Rose, and | ||||||
18 | Carol Rose; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| ||||||
19 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
20 | NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
21 | mourn the passing of Richard A. Brauer, and we extend our | ||||||
22 | deepest sympathy to his family, friends, community, and all who | ||||||
23 | knew and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
24 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
25 | presented to the family of Richard A. Brauer as an expression | ||||||
26 | of our sincere condolences.
