| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The Department of Public Health has suspended the |
3 |
| administration of examinations to applicants for initial |
4 |
| licensure and renewal licensure as Emergency Medical |
5 |
| Technicians in the State of Illinois; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, The Department of Public Health has recently |
7 |
| stated that examinations will not resume until the Department |
8 |
| has developed new examinations and that the development of new |
9 |
| examinations is expected to take approximately 6 months; and |
10 |
| WHEREAS, Many rural or partly rural fire protection |
11 |
| districts and other providers of rural Emergency Medical |
12 |
| Technician services maintain high levels of dependence on a |
13 |
| limited number of Emergency Medical Technicians for a wide |
14 |
| range of emergency services; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, A decrease in the number of licensed Emergency |
16 |
| Medical Technicians could create a catastrophic situation in |
17 |
| the event of terrorist activity here in Illinois; and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, If the Department of Public Health takes up to 6 |
19 |
| months to develop new examinations, the health and safety of |
20 |
| the citizens of this State may be at risk; therefore, be it |
21 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
22 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
23 |
| strongly urge the Department of Public Health to immediately |
24 |
| take all steps necessary to develop new Emergency Medical |
25 |
| Technician examinations so that applicants for initial |
26 |
| licensure and renewal licensure may be promptly examined; and |
27 |
| be it further |

| RESOLVED, That we strongly urge the Department of Public |

| Health to explore all possibilities, consistent with |
