| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, New provisions relating to self-insured State |
| 3 |
| health insurance plans require that plan beneficiaries obtain |
| 4 |
| prescription drugs from mail-order pharmacies instead of local |
| 5 |
| pharmacies located in this State; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, A patient's relationship with his or her local |
| 7 |
| pharmacist is important to the patient's health care; a patient |
| 8 |
| using a mail-order pharmacy cannot ask a pharmacist questions |
| 9 |
| face-to-face and will not receive individual attention, |
| 10 |
| possibly jeopardizing the patient's health; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, The use of a mail-order pharmacy may create |
| 12 |
| serious problems in the timing of a patient's receipt of |
| 13 |
| necessary prescription drugs; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Prescription-drug business with local pharmacies |
| 15 |
| is important to the economy of this State and will suffer if |
| 16 |
| State health insurance plan beneficiaries are required to use |
| 17 |
| mail-order pharmacies instead; the required use of mail-order |
| 18 |
| pharmacies may result in the closure of local pharmacies and |
| 19 |
| diminished access to pharmacy services for the people of |
| 20 |
| Illinois; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, The closure of local pharmacies will lead to a |
| 22 |
| loss of jobs in the cities and towns of this State, increased |
| 23 |
| unemployment, and a greater financial burden on the State; |
| 24 |
| therefore, be it
|
| 25 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 26 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 27 |
| urge the Governor to reconsider the new mandatory mail-order |
| 28 |
| pharmacy provisions that have been added to the self-insured |
| 29 |
| State health insurance plans; and be it further
