HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, It is with profound sadness that the members of 
3
the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois learned 
4
of the death of U.S. Army Sergeant Christopher Allen Wagener of 
5
Fairview Heights on Thursday, July 1, 2004; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Christopher Wagener was born on July 22, 1979 in 
7
Peoria to Kenneth and Dani Wagener; and

 
8
    WHEREAS, Christopher Wagener entered the U.S. Army just two 
9
weeks after his 1998 graduation from Belleville East High 
10
School; he obtained the rank of Sergeant and was a member of 
11
the 10th Mountain Division, Company C, 10th Aviation Brigade, 
12
where he served as a helicopter repair technician and had goals 
13
of becoming a pilot; and

 
14
    WHEREAS, Sergeant Wagener served tours of duty around the 
15
world, including Germany, Bosnia, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, 
16
and Iraq; he was a dedicated soldier who, after six years in 
17
the Army, had the opportunity to leave the service, but chose 
18
to re-enlist in February of 2004, even while he was serving in 
19
hostile conditions; his bravery earned him the Bronze Star and 
20
the Purple Heart; and
 
21
    WHEREAS, Sergeant Wagener loved the outdoors and 
22
especially enjoyed hiking, kayaking on challenging rivers, and 
23
photography; he is remembered for his fondness of the music of 
24
Nickelback and  science fiction movies as well as for telling 
25
far-fetched tales; and
 
26
    WHEREAS, The passing of Sergeant Wagener has been deeply 
27
felt by many, especially his parents, Kenneth and Dani Wagener; 
28
his sister, Michelle (Aaron) Friederich; his paternal 
29
grandmother, Gloria Wagener; his maternal grandmother, Marian 
30
DelVecchio; his niece, Taylor Friederich; and his many aunts,

uncles, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES  OF THE 
3
NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
4
mourn the death of U.S. Army Sergeant Christopher Allen 
5
Wagener, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, 
6
friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
7
    RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Sergeant Wagener, and 
8
his willingness to serve his country, which led to him making 
9
the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further

 
10
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
11
presented to the family of Sergeant Christopher Allen Wagener 
12
as an expression of our sincerest condolences.
