| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Susan Cisna of |
| 4 |
| Mattoon on being named the 2004 Illinois Reading Educator of |
| 5 |
| the Year for grades 6 through 12; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, The award is given by the Illinois Reading Council |
| 7 |
| (IRC); the committee awarded Mrs. Cisna the honor based on her |
| 8 |
| philosophy of education and outstanding commitment to |
| 9 |
| students, parents, and community at East Prairie School in |
| 10 |
| Tuscola; recommendations from her colleagues and administrator |
| 11 |
| affirmed Mrs. Cisna's dedication to teaching reading; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Cisna has been teaching for 30 years; among |
| 13 |
| the many programs she has developed is the "Voice From the |
| 14 |
| Prairie" reading project, which partners students and their |
| 15 |
| parents with help from local community groups; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Cisna has presented at many education |
| 17 |
| workshops, is a member of the Illinois Reading Council, the |
| 18 |
| International Reading Association, and the National Council of |
| 19 |
| Teachers of English; she is currently co-president of the East |
| 20 |
| Central Illinois EIU Reading Council; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Cisna has made a practice of involving |
| 22 |
| herself in the full spectrum of education; she continually |
| 23 |
| incorporates new ideas into lesson plans, offers students help |
| 24 |
| outside of the classroom, mentors new teachers, stays current |
| 25 |
| on teaching strategies, and serves as a leader in her field; |
| 26 |
| and
|
| 27 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Cisna and her husband, Dennis, have 2 |
| 28 |
| children, Douglas Cisna and Michele Wicklander, and 2 |
| 29 |
| grandchildren; she is the daughter of William and Wanda Grimes |
| 30 |
| of Mattoon; and
