| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives were deeply saddened to learn of the death of |
| 4 |
| Vivian C. Smith of Chicago on July 22, 2004; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Vivian Colbert Smith was born in Longview, Texas |
| 6 |
| on April 23, 1918; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Vivian Smith was a retired employee of the federal |
| 8 |
| government, and was actively involved in retiree's rights |
| 9 |
| through the National Association of Retired Federal Employees |
| 10 |
| Chicago Chapter 6; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, She was involved in court advocacy and in |
| 12 |
| supporting political candidates that she believed in; she was |
| 13 |
| involved with her community through her work with the Neighbors |
| 14 |
| of Fuller Park and the 9th Police District in Chicago; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Vivian Smith was an expert seamstress, a wonderful |
| 16 |
| mother, and a very strong matriarch for her entire family; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Vivian C. Smith will be deeply felt |
| 18 |
| by many, especially her son, Kenneth Smith, Jr.; her nieces and |
| 19 |
| nephews, Diane (Samuels) Brooks, Barbara Samuels, Gregory |
| 20 |
| Samuels, Sr., and Dwight Samuels; her many grandnieces and |
| 21 |
| grandnephews; and her many dear friends; and
|
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph |
| 23 |
| and Bertha (Fowler) Colbert; her sister, Bernice (Colbert) |
| 24 |
| Samuels; and her nephew, William H. Samuels; therefore, be it
|
| 25 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 26 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 27 |
| mourn the death of Vivian C. Smith along with all who knew and |
| 28 |
| loved her and extend our sincere condolences to her family and |
