| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Alghia |
| 4 |
| (June) Griffin, Jr.; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Alghia Griffin, Jr. was born in Vicksburg, |
| 6 |
| Mississippi on July 22, 1931; he was the third child born to |
| 7 |
| Rev. Alghia Griffin, Sr. and Maria Bozeman; his primary and |
| 8 |
| elementary school years were completed at Cherry Street School |
| 9 |
| and Bowman High school, in Vicksburg; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, He was gifted with an unusual musical ability that |
| 11 |
| can be traced back in his family tree to the 1800s; he was able |
| 12 |
| to play a wide range of instruments, including every wind and |
| 13 |
| string instrument, the complete percussion section, organ, and |
| 14 |
| piano; he was presented the highest outstanding music award for |
| 15 |
| all four years of high school; he was then employed by his |
| 16 |
| uncle, the first black man to organize a band in the Vicksburg |
| 17 |
| area; and |
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Griffin was called to the Ministry while a |
| 19 |
| member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Vicksburg, the place for all |
| 20 |
| of his Christian training from childhood to manhood; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, He served his country with dignity and pride as |
| 22 |
| Spec. 4th Class Radio Operator for four years in the U.S. Army, |
| 23 |
| during the Korean War; he then relocated to Chicago in 1954; |
| 24 |
| and
|
| 25 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Griffin was employed by Jefferson Electric, |
| 26 |
| the Chicago Transit Authority, the Village of Maywood, and the |
| 27 |
| Federal Government for many years; and
|
| 28 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Alghia (June) Griffin, Jr. will be |
| 29 |
| deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Diana Griffin; his |
