HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois were deeply saddened to learn of the death of
4 Lance Cpl. Jonathan W. Collins of Crystal Lake on August 8,
5 2004 in Al Anbar province of Iraq; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Jonathan Collins was assigned to the 2nd
7 Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine
8 Expeditionary Force out of Camp Pendleton, California; and
 
9     WHEREAS, He was born in Naperville to Jack and Angel
10 (Betancourt) Collins and was the second of four children; his
11 family moved often, to Connecticut, New Jersey, Michigan, and
12 Virginia, before settling in Crystal Lake halfway through his
13 freshman year; he was a 2003 graduate of Crystal Lake South
14 High School and was a member of the soccer and swim teams; he
15 also participated in theatre and Gator Pride; shortly after his
16 graduation he enlisted in the Marines; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Lance Cpl. Collins was recently promoted from the
18 rank of private first class; he loved being a Marine,
19 especially when he built a school, strung wire to provide
20 electricity for homes, and passed out candy to fellow Marines;
21 and
 
22     WHEREAS, He was planning to use the money he had earned
23 during military service to go to college and become a police
24 officer; and
 
25     WHEREAS, The passing of Lance Cpl. Jonathan W. Collins will
26 be deeply felt by many, especially his parents, Jack and Angel;
27 his brother, Brandon; his two sisters, Lauren and Devon; his
28 maternal grandfather, Elias Betancourt; his paternal
29 grandparents, John and Alice Collins; and many aunts, uncles,
30 and cousins; and

1     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his maternal
2 grandmother, Sandra Maria (Cooley) Betancourt; therefore, be
3 it
 
4     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6 together with his family, friends, educators, community, and
7 fellow members of the United States armed forces, we mourn the
8 death of Lance Cpl. Jonathan W. Collins, who will be remembered
9 for his selflessness, bravery, patriotism, sense of humor,
10 confidence, generosity, kindness, and strong character and we
11 offer our deepest sympathy to all who knew and loved him; and
12 be it further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to the family of Lance Cpl. Jonathan W. Collins as a
15 token of our deepest sympathy.
