| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, On November 11, 1954 the Scales Mound Lions Club, |
| 3 |
| under the sponsorship of the East Dubuque and Galena Clubs, |
| 4 |
| received its charter from District Governor John Personna; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, The club is in its 50th year of Lionism; its first |
| 6 |
| president, Bill Stadel, and his wife, Erm, provided their cabin |
| 7 |
| as the club's meeting place during the summer months; when Bill |
| 8 |
| passed away in 1983, Erm donated the cabin to the club; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, The members have shown they are "people serving |
| 10 |
| people"; some of their activities through the years have |
| 11 |
| included: donating to blind activities; sponsoring Cub Scouts; |
| 12 |
| providing water safety and swimming classes, and an annual |
| 13 |
| Christmas party for the children of the community; sending boys |
| 14 |
| to Illinois Boys State; hosting an athletic banquet and |
| 15 |
| delivering food baskets annually; providing eye glasses for the |
| 16 |
| needy; coordinating fundraisers for needy persons; providing a |
| 17 |
| Braille watch for a blind man; sponsoring the Lioness Club for |
| 18 |
| 14 years; providing the fencing for High Point athletic park; |
| 19 |
| and giving one-time money gifts to Rainbow Ridge and Galena |
| 20 |
| Hospital; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, The club participates in the annual Candy Day, |
| 22 |
| awards a scholarship to a graduating senior, and has sponsored |
| 23 |
| the American Red Cross blood drive for 15 years; an annual |
| 24 |
| pancake breakfast and the Mother's Day Flower Sale are the |
| 25 |
| club's major fundraisers; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 27 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 28 |
| congratulate the Scales Mound Lions Club on its 50th |
| 29 |
| anniversary; that we commend all who have contributed to the |
| 30 |
| success and longevity of the club; and that we wish the members |
| 31 |
| and leaders all the best in the future; and be it further
|
