| WHEREAS, The Winnetka Park District was created in 1904 by |
3 |
| a group of citizens who wanted to beautify a piece of land that |
4 |
| was strewn with debris from the local livery stable and located |
5 |
| in front of the village train station; and |
6 |
| WHEREAS, The Winnetka Park District is the State's |
7 |
| fourth-oldest park district; and |
8 |
| WHEREAS, The Winnetka Park District includes an 18-hole |
9 |
| championship golf course plus a par-3 course, an indoor ice |
10 |
| arena, two outdoor rinks, four public beaches with beach |
11 |
| houses, and a skate park; and |
12 |
| WHEREAS, The Winnetka Park District has been an innovator |
13 |
| in park district services, building one of the region's first |
14 |
| indoor tennis facilities in 1962; and |
15 |
| WHEREAS, In order to best serve the recreational needs of |
16 |
| people with disabilities, in 1969 the Winnetka Park District |
17 |
| became a charter member of the North Suburban Special |
18 |
| Recreation District; and |
19 |
| WHEREAS, The Winnetka Park District further demonstrated |
20 |
| its commitment to the needs of people with disabilities by |
21 |
| opening the State's first accessible public beach in 1992; and |
22 |
| WHEREAS, The Winnetka Park District has served the needs of |
23 |
| Winnetka's four-legged residents by opening the State's first |
24 |
| dog beach in 1995; and |
25 |
| WHEREAS, The Winnetka Park District has grown from its |
26 |
| humble beginnings as a single park in 1904 to contain more than |
27 |
| 28 park sites covering 244 acres of land today; and |
