| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |

| Representatives wish to congratulate Kate Clements, journalist |
4 |
| for the Champaign News-Gazette, for receiving a number of |
5 |
| journalistic awards; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, The Association of Capitol Reporters and Editors |
7 |
| is a national organization of journalists covering state and |
8 |
| local issues; the Association of Capitol Reporters and Editors |
9 |
| has announced award winners for 2004; the Association of |
10 |
| Capitol Reporters and Editors' award is named the Aubuchon |
11 |
| Award; Kate Clements has been the recipient of three of these |
12 |
| awards; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, Kate Clements received third place for the |
14 |
| Aubuchon Award in the category of In-Depth Reporting for |
15 |
| newspapers with a circulation under 75,000 for her series of |
16 |
| articles entitled "Governor wants say on investing", "Contract |
17 |
| has family connections", "Board dismisses state's advice", |
18 |
| "Pensions post high returns", and "Pension panel slipped under |
19 |
| radar"; she received second place in the category of Single |
20 |
| Report for newspapers with a circulation under 75,000 for her |
21 |
| article "Flying Air Illinois"; she received first place in the |
22 |
| category of Single Report for magazines for her article in |
23 |
| Illinois Issues Magazine, "Risky Math"; and
|
24 |
| WHEREAS, Kate Clements has proven to be an honest, |
25 |
| hardworking capitol reporter and critical in connecting the |
26 |
| readers of the Champaign News-Gazette with their state's |
27 |
| government; democracy is reliant on a free press that reports |
28 |
| facts and the truth instead of propaganda; the reporting of |
29 |
| journalists like Kate Clements is vital to the future of |
30 |
| democracy in the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
