| AN ACT in relation to criminal law.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
| 3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Criminal Code of 1961 is amended by changing
|
| 5 |
| Section 7-1 as follows:
|

| Sec. 7-1. Use of
force in defense of person.
A person is |
| 8 |
| justified in the use of force against another when and to
the |
| 9 |
| extent that he or she reasonably believes that such conduct is
|
| 10 |
| necessary to
defend himself or herself or another against such |
| 11 |
| other's imminent use of
unlawful
force. However, the person
he |
| 12 |
| is justified in the use of force which is
intended or
likely to |
| 13 |
| cause death or great bodily harm only if he or she reasonably
|
| 14 |
| believes
that such force is necessary to prevent imminent death |
| 15 |
| or great bodily harm
to himself or herself or another, or the |
| 16 |
| commission of a forcible felony.
