Amends the Election Code. Permits a county clerk, rather than a county canvassing board, to perform the canvass of votes after a consolidated primary election or a consolidated election.

| AN ACT concerning elections.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Election Code is amended by adding Section |
| 5 |
| 22-1.5 as follows: |
| 6 |
| (10 ILCS 5/22-1.5 new) |
| 7 |
| Sec. 22-1.5. County clerk sole canvasser option. Following |
| 8 |
| a consolidated primary election or a consolidated election, a |
| 9 |
| county clerk may choose to conduct the canvass of returns |
| 10 |
| without a county canvassing board. If a county clerk so |
| 11 |
| chooses, no county canvassing board shall be appointed as |
| 12 |
| provided in this Article and the duties and responsibilities of |
| 13 |
| the county canvassing board shall be the duties and |
| 14 |
| responsibilities of the county clerk. References in this Code |
| 15 |
| or any other statute to the county canvassing board shall be |
| 16 |
| construed to mean the county clerk when a county clerk has |
| 17 |
| chosen to perform the canvass as described in this Section.
