| AN ACT concerning elections.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
| 3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 |
| Section 5. The Election Code is amended by adding Sections |
| 5 |
| 13-2.5 and 14-4.5
as follows:
|

| (10 ILCS 5/13-2.5 new)
|
| 7 |
| Sec. 13-2.5. Time off from work to serve as election judge.
|
| 8 |
| Any person
who
is
appointed as an election judge under Section |
| 9 |
| 13-1 or 13-2 may, after giving his
or her
employer at least 20 |
| 10 |
| days' written notice, be absent from his or her place of
work |
| 11 |
| for the
purpose of serving as an election judge. An employer |
| 12 |
| may not penalize an
employee for
that absence other than a |
| 13 |
| deduction in salary for the time the employee was
absent from
|
| 14 |
| his or her place of employment.
|
| 15 |
| An employer may limit the number of employees to be absent
|
| 16 |
| under this Section on the same election day. |
| 17 |
| This Section shall not apply to employees considered by the |
| 18 |
| employer to be necessary for the continued efficient operations |
| 19 |
| of the business.
|
