| SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Securing decent, safe, accessible, and affordable |
| 3 |
| housing is a part of the American Dream and a goal of Illinois |
| 4 |
| citizens; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Efforts to help citizens secure affordable home |
| 6 |
| ownership and rental housing opportunities are legitimate and |
| 7 |
| necessary activities of both State government and the private |
| 8 |
| sector, as witnessed by the many Illinois citizens who have |
| 9 |
| benefited from State programs; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Affordable housing remains only a dream of |
| 11 |
| thousands of citizens; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Reductions in federal housing assistance and |
| 13 |
| rising housing costs have contributed to high rent burdens on |
| 14 |
| senior citizens, low-income families, and others; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Access to affordable housing can be achieved |
| 16 |
| through cooperative local, State, and federal efforts; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, The talents of grassroots organizations, |
| 18 |
| nonprofit housing professional, financial institutions, |
| 19 |
| elected officials, State agencies, and others must be combined |
| 20 |
| to address the immense challenge of increased affordable |
| 21 |
| housing; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES |
| 24 |
| CONCURRING HEREIN, that we proclaim the week of March 14-20, |
| 25 |
| 2004, as "Affordable Housing Week" in Illinois to promote |
| 26 |
| appropriate activities by private and public entities aimed at |
| 27 |
| providing or advocating accessible, affordable housing for all |
| 28 |
| Illinois citizens.
