093_SR0038 LRB093 10819 KEF 11263 r 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of 3 Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Charles 4 Richard Quigless Sr. of St. Louis on January 30, 2003; and 5 WHEREAS, Dr. Quigless was born on March 28, 1926 in 6 Newelton, Louisiana to John and Ruby Quigless; he attended 7 public school in Newelton and graduated from Dunbar High 8 School in Washington D.C.; he attended Dillard University in 9 New Orleans and Howard University's School of Dental Surgery 10 in Washington D.C.; and 11 WHEREAS, Dr. Quigless served in the U.S. Army and later 12 completed his dental internship at the renowned Homer G. 13 Philips Hospital; and 14 WHEREAS, Dr. Quigless married Dorothy Kirk in 1960 and 15 through their marriage of 34 years had three children; she 16 preceded him in death; and 17 WHEREAS, Dr. Quigless was an accomplished dentist and 18 former director of the dental clinic at Homer G. Philips 19 Hospital; and 20 WHEREAS, Dr. Quigless was known as a pleasant, 21 conscientious gentlemen, and his colleagues remember him as a 22 polished professional who was always eager to mentor young 23 and upcoming dentists; and 24 WHEREAS, Dr. Quigless remained an active part of his 25 community throughout his career; he was past president of the 26 Mound City Dental Society and Chi Delta Mu, a national dental 27 fraternity; he served as steward at St. James African 28 Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church and he was a member of 29 Royal Vagabonds and Kappa Alpha Psi; and 30 WHEREAS, In July 2000, Dr. Quigless married Sylvia Elois -2- LRB093 10819 KEF 11263 r 1 Wright; and 2 WHEREAS, Dr. Quigless' passing will be deeply felt by all 3 of his friends and family, especially his wife, Sylvia Elois; 4 his sons, Dr. Charles Richard Jr. (Judge Angela), Dr. Kirk 5 Cammack (Marcia); his daughters, Ms. Patricia Ann Williams, 6 and Mrs. Ashley (Ray) Brown; his grandchildren, Dawn, Miriam, 7 Kirk Jr., Miles, Kristian, Charles III, and Leonard III; and 8 a host of many in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, 9 relatives, and friends; therefore, be it 10 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL 11 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of 12 Dr. Charles Richard Quigless Sr., along with all who knew and 13 loved him, and extend our sincere condolences to his family 14 and friends; and be it further 15 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 16 presented to the family of Dr. Charles Richard Quigless Sr. 17 with our deepest sympathy.
