093_SR0116 LRB093 11530 HSS 14686 r 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of 3 Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of Florian 4 "Mickey" Kulaga of Downers Grove on Tuesday, March 25, 2003; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, Mr. Kulaga was born on February 6, 1920; he 7 valiantly served his country in the United States Army during 8 World War II; he was with the 15th Air Force, 454th Bomb 9 Group, 738th Bomb Squadron; he was stationed in Italy, 10 Washington, and California; and 11 WHEREAS, From the early 1960s until he retired in 1981, 12 Mr. Kulaga drove concrete trucks for H.J. Mohr & Sons Co. in 13 Oak Park, and other firms; he also did upholstery and other 14 handiwork; and 15 WHEREAS, Mr. Kulaga was a Democratic precinct 16 committeeman in DuPage County from 1950 until 1980; he 17 assisted in running elections and spent many days handing out 18 campaign flyers; he helped organize campaign rallies and met 19 John F. Kennedy during his presidential campaign; and 20 WHEREAS, Mr. Kulaga had many brushes with fame throughout 21 his life; as a child, he met Al Capone; when he was stationed 22 in Italy, he and other troops had an audience with Pope Pius 23 XII; when he was located in California, he danced with Dinah 24 Shore and met Johnny Weissmuller; and 25 WHEREAS, Mr. Kulaga was an avid sports fan and loved the 26 Chicago Bears; he was devoted to his children and 27 grandchildren; following his retirement, he spent several 28 winters in his second home in Florida; and 29 WHEREAS, The passing of Florian "Mickey" Kulaga has been 30 deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Sophia "Sue" nee 31 Zglobicki; his sons, Randy (Kathy) and Jon (Mary) Kulaga; his -2- LRB093 11530 HSS 14686 r 1 grandchildren, Amanda, Daniel, Adam, Sean, Brendan, and 2 Sarah; his brothers, Alex (Louise) and John (Barbara) Kulaga; 3 his sisters-in-law, Mary Katarzynski and Louise (Alex) 4 Kulaga; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it 5 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL 6 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing 7 of Florian "Mickey" Kulaga and extend to his family and 8 friends our sincere condolences; and be it further 9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 10 presented to the family of Florian "Mickey" Kulaga as an 11 expression of our deepest sympathy.
