093_SR0137 LRB093 11601 HSS 14937 r 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of 3 Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Donald 4 Walden Anderson of Aurora on Tuesday, March 25, 2003; and 5 WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson was born on October 12, 1919 in 6 Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Karl Wesley and Adah (Waldee) 7 Anderson; he lived in Waterman with his parents and then 8 moved to Newark, Ohio; and 9 WHEREAS, He graduated from Newark High School and went on 10 to attend Hiram College in Hiram, Ohio, where he completed 11 his undergraduate studies and earned a pilot's license; he 12 then went on to study at Case Western Reserve University 13 School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio; he interned in 14 Detroit, Michigan, at Harper Hospital; and 15 WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson spent many of his summers on his 16 aunt and uncle's farm in Waterman; during those summers, he 17 developed a love for farming and nature; and 18 WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson married Lera Ellen Hart on May 8, 19 1943 in Dover, Ohio; shortly after his marriage, he was 20 called to serve his country during World War II as a captain 21 in the Army Medical Corps, spending part of his tour in 22 Germany; and 23 WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson moved his family from Ohio to 24 Illinois and enjoyed over 50 years practicing medicine until 25 his retirement in 1997; he belonged to the American Academy 26 of Family Practice, the Kane County Medical Society, and the 27 American Medical Association; he served as Chief of Staff of 28 Copley Memorial Hospital, now Rush-Copley Medical Center; and 29 WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson was a longtime member of Wesley 30 United Methodist Church where he enjoyed singing in the 31 choir; he was also a member of the Union League Club of -2- LRB093 11601 HSS 14937 r 1 Aurora, the Aurora Sportsman's Club, and the National Rifle 2 Association; he belonged to the Aurora Country Club and was 3 an early supporter of the Fox Valley Symphony; and 4 WHEREAS, The passing of Dr. Donald Walden Anderson has 5 been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Lera; his 6 daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Ron and Judy Wenger and their 7 children, Clayton (Jamie) Wenger and Lera Wenger; his 8 daughter and son-in-law, Andrew and Kristi Thompson and their 9 children, Lera and Mark Thompson; his son and 10 daughter-in-law, David and Diane Anderson and their daughter, 11 Carrie Reichold; and his daughter and son-in-law, Ralph and 12 Nancy Lary and their children, Leon and Ros Lary; therefore, 13 be it 14 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL 15 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing 16 of Dr. Donald Walden Anderson and extend our sincere and 17 deepest sympathy to his family and friends; and be it further 18 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 19 presented to the family of Dr. Anderson as an expression of 20 our condolences.
