093_SR0144 LRB093 11701 HSS 15393 r 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of 3 Illinois learned with great regret of the death of Frank 4 Yocum of Jerseyville on Saturday, April 19, 2003; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Yocum was born on January 20, 1939 in St. 6 Louis to Truman and Esther (Wade) Yocum; he attended Jersey 7 Community High School where he was a star tackle on the 8 Panthers football squad and graduated in 1957; he was an 9 honorable mention on the All-State football team; he 10 graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale 11 where he participated in athletics; and 12 WHEREAS, Mr. Yocum married Rebecca Sue Sutton on August 13 29, 1959 in Fairfield; she preceded him in death in 1975; he 14 married Carol Heraty on June 7, 1979 in Godfrey; and 15 WHEREAS, Mr. Yocum was elected sheriff of Jersey County 16 in 1974 and was re-elected five straight times; his time as 17 sheriff was marked with the breaking of burglary rings, 18 drug-dealing operations, and the solving of murders; and 19 WHEREAS, Mr. Yocum was serving as the Jersey County Board 20 chairman; he was an announcer for the Jersey Community High 21 School football team; prior to his election to the Jersey 22 Township Board, he operated a music store and office supply 23 business; and 24 WHEREAS, Mr. Yocum was a member of several professional 25 and civic organizations including the Illinois Sheriff 26 Association, the Jerseyville Elks 954, the Jerseyville Moose 27 695, the Jersey Community High School Athletic Club, Jersey 28 County Economic Development, and the West Lake Country Club; 29 he was also active with the Lions and the Jaycees clubs of 30 Jerseyville and was a member of Peace United Church of Christ 31 in Jerseyville; and -2- LRB093 11701 HSS 15393 r 1 WHEREAS, Mr. Yocum will be sadly missed by family and 2 countless friends, especially his wife, Carol; his daughters 3 and sons-in-law, Jana and Kevin Kallal and Pam and Clint 4 Warford; and his grandchildren, John, Jeff, and Kathleen 5 Kallal, and Jacob and Rebecca Warford; therefore, be it 6 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL 7 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of 8 Frank Yocum, who will have a permanent place in the memory of 9 associates, family, and friends as an outstanding individual, 10 dedicated public servant, and dear friend; and be it further 11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 12 presented to the family of Frank Yocum as an expression of 13 our sincerest condolences during their time of bereavement.
