093_SR0148 LRB093 11776 KEF 15990 r 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of 3 Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of Dr. O. 4 Theodore Roberg Jr. of Chicago on Thursday, April 24, 2003; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, Dr. Roberg was born in Chicago, the son of the 7 first chief surgeon at Swedish Covenant Hospital; he 8 graduated from Princeton University, Phi Beta Kappa, in 1927 9 and then completed Harvard Medical School, Alpha Omega Alpha, 10 four years later; he studied briefly in Europe before 11 returning to the United States in 1936 when he joined the 12 staff at Swedish Covenant Hospital as a surgeon; and 13 WHEREAS, Dr. Roberg retired at the age of 80 from his 14 position at Swedish Covenant after 50 years of service; he is 15 remembered as a champion of health care for the impoverished 16 and uninsured; and 17 WHEREAS, Dr. Roberg was a boxer in his younger years and 18 skied until his hip replacement surgery in 1978; he enjoyed 19 cross-country skiing and fishing; and 20 WHEREAS, Dr. Roberg championed health care for the 21 impoverished and uninsured; and 22 WHEREAS, The passing of Dr. O. Theodore Roberg Jr. has 23 been deeply felt by all who knew him, especially his wife, 24 Phyllis nee Churchill; his children, O. Theodore Roberg III, 25 Marilee Roberg, and Bradford C. (Yvonne) Roberg, M.D.; and 26 his granddaughter, Alana Roberg; therefore, be it 27 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL 28 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we join in mourning 29 the loss of Dr. O.
