 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  Senate  of  the  State  of
 3    Illinois  were  saddened to learn of the death of  Dr. Rolley
 4    C. Bateman, Jr. on Friday, May 23, 2003; and

 5        WHEREAS, Born on  April 29, 1925 in Chicago, Dr.  Bateman
 6    was the son of Anna (nee Bradtke) and Rolley C. Bateman, Sr.;
 7    and

 8        WHEREAS,  Dr.  Bateman graduated from Foreman High School
 9    in Chicago at the age of 16, from North Park College in 1943,
10    and the University of Iowa in 1945,  where  he  acquired  his
11    bachelor  of  science  degree;  in 1949 he graduated from the
12    University of Illinois, College of  Dentistry;  beginning  in
13    1959,  Dr.  Bateman  was on staff at the then, new, Northwest
14    Community Hospital; and

15        WHEREAS, Dr. Bateman practiced dentistry  for  38  years,
16    from 1953 to 1987; he was Palatine's third dentist; he served
17    as a captain in the 101st Airborne Division Army Dental Corps
18    from  1951  to 1953; he taught at Loyola Dental School in the
19    Department of Radiology & Diagnosis as an associate professor
20    and director of clinics; he retired in 1987 at the age of  62
21    and was awarded standing as Professor Emeritus; and

22        WHEREAS,  Dr.  Bateman  served  as  president of and held
23    other offices with the North Suburban Branch of  the  Chicago
24    Dental  Society; he also served as president of the Northwest
25    Suburban Dental Study Club; in addition, he was a  member  of
26    Odontographic Society; and

27        WHEREAS,  Dr. Bateman was involved in many organizations,
28    including the board of health for the  Village  of  Palatine,
29    the  advisory committee for the Harper College Dental Hygiene
30    Program, and the board of directors for the Palatine  Savings
31    & Loan Association; and

 1        WHEREAS, In addition, Dr. Bateman was a member of the St.
 2    Paul  United  Methodist  Church  of  Palatine;  he was also a
 3    member of the  Palatine  Masonic  Lodge  #314  A.F.  &  A.M.,
 4    Palatine  Chapter  #206  of the Royal Arch Masons, Council of
 5    Cryptic Masons #46, Knights Templar  Bethel  Commandery  #36,
 6    Scottish  Rite  Valley  of Chicago, Northwest Suburban Shrine
 7    Club, Medinah Shrine Temple  of  Chicago,  and  Sahib  Shrine
 8    Temple of Sarasota, Florida; and

 9        WHEREAS,  The  passing  of Dr. Rolley C. Bateman, Jr. has
10    been deeply felt by all who knew him,  especially  his  wife,
11    Annette;  his  children,  Rolley  C. III (Marianne), James P.
12    (Laurel), Noel A. (Dr.  Robert  J.)  Angerame,  Elizabeth  L.
13    (Paul)  Grayczyk, Roberta L. (Steven) Conrad,  and Kristin M.
14    (Brian)  Tite;  his  grandchildren,   Rolley   IV,   Stephen,
15    Katherine,  Daniel,  Rebecca, Emily, and Megan Bateman, John,
16    Marc, and  Thomas  Angerame,  Kimberly,  James,  and  Jeffrey
17    Grayczyk,  Courtney,  Christine,  and  Catherine  Conrad, and
18    Kelly  Tite;  and  his  great-grandchildren,  Emma  and  Iris
19    Bateman; Dr.  Bateman  Jr.  was  preceded  in  death  by  his
20    parents; therefore, be it

21        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
22    ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the  passing
23    of  Dr.  Rolley  C.  Bateman, Jr. and express our sincere and
24    deepest sympathy to his family and friends; and be it further

25        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
26    presented  to  the family of Dr. Rolley C. Bateman, Jr. as an
27    expression  of  our  condolences   during   their   time   of
28    bereavement.
