093_SR0293 LRB093 13713 HSS 19113 r 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The Senate has been ably served by officers and 3 staff throughout the history of this body; and 4 WHEREAS, The Senate truly mourns the passing of Danny R. 5 Day who served as the Senate Sergeant at Arms for the 83rd to 6 the 87th General Assemblies; and 7 WHEREAS, Danny R. Day was a native of Missouri, a 8 graduate of the Congressional Page School of Washington, 9 D.C., and a graduate of Southern Illinois University at 10 Carbondale; and 11 WHEREAS, Danny R. Day as a college student began a long, 12 distinguished career on behalf of the Democratic Party of the 13 State of Illinois by working on the campaigns of Senator Ken 14 Buzbee, Senate President Cecil Partee, United States Senator 15 Alan Dixon, and numerous other candidates and office holders 16 throughout the State of Illinois; and 17 WHEREAS, Danny R. Day began working for Illinois 18 government as an assistant to Secretary of State Michael 19 Howlett and then for Secretary of State Alan Dixon; and 20 WHEREAS, Danny R. Day served on the Senate Democratic 21 Staff under Senate President Philip Rock until his election 22 by this body as Sergeant at Arms in 1983; and 23 WHEREAS, As Sergeant at Arms, Danny R. Day undertook 24 measures to increase the security and efficiency of operation 25 of the Senate so as to enhance this body's capability to meet 26 the needs of the people of the State of Illinois; and 27 WHEREAS, Upon the conclusion of his tenure as Sergeant at 28 Arms, Danny R. Day continued on with the Senate Democratic 29 Staff for constituent services under then Senate Democratic 30 Leader Emil Jones, Jr.; and -2- LRB093 13713 HSS 19113 r 1 WHEREAS, Upon his departure from the Senate, Danny R. Day 2 was engaged in real estate sales, advertisement sales, and 3 political consulting; and 4 WHEREAS, Danny R. Day was best known for his tremendous 5 wit, his strength of friendship, his vast knowledge of 6 government and history, and his political service; and 7 WHEREAS, The death of Danny R. Day is mourned by his 8 beloved parents, Clarence R. and Virginia; his brothers, Don 9 and Larry; his nieces and nephews; and literally thousands of 10 citizens of Illinois who had the pleasure and honor of his 11 friendship throughout his many years of service to the State 12 of Illinois and the Democratic Party of the State of 13 Illinois; therefore, be it 14 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL 15 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that the death of Danny R. 16 Day is truly a sad occasion for the members of this body and 17 the State of Illinois; and be it further 18 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this preamble and 19 resolution be presented to the family of Danny R. Day as 20 measure of our respect for his work, friendship, and service 21 to the people of the State of Illinois.
