| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
| 3 |
| were saddened to learn of the death of Virginia S. "Suzy" |
| 4 |
| Hubbard of Grayslake on November 20, 2003; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Hubbard was born in Buffalo, and her family |
| 6 |
| moved to Grayslake when she was young; after high school, she |
| 7 |
| became an office worker at Great Lakes Naval Training Center, |
| 8 |
| where she met her husband, Kenneth, a corpsman; when they were |
| 9 |
| 19, they got married and settled in Grayslake; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Hubbard worked as a receptionist for a doctor |
| 11 |
| and as a homemaker before joining the College of Lake County; |
| 12 |
| she worked as a clerk and stenographer in the admissions |
| 13 |
| department when the college opened in 1969; the College was |
| 14 |
| housed in a few trailers in a former cornfield and had more |
| 15 |
| than 2,300 students registered choosing among 224 courses; she |
| 16 |
| moved up the ranks as the college grew to almost 16,000 |
| 17 |
| students, whose registration for more than 2,500 courses has |
| 18 |
| been increasingly done over the phone or via computer; she |
| 19 |
| became office supervisor for admissions and records in 1988; |
| 20 |
| and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Her dedication to the students was among her |
| 22 |
| compelling reasons for continuing to work long past the age |
| 23 |
| when many retire; when not working with the students, she |
| 24 |
| supervised about a dozen staff members, training them how to |
| 25 |
| handle calls, enroll students, conduct enrollment |
| 26 |
| verification, order degree audits, evaluate credit transfers, |
| 27 |
| set the calendar, and organize graduation ceremonies; and
|
| 28 |
| WHEREAS, Virginia "Suzy" Hubbard's passing will be deeply |
| 29 |
| felt by many, especially her sons, Kurt, Ken, and Larry; her |
| 30 |
| daughter, Mary Hubbard Slavik; her daughter-in-law, Beverly |
| 31 |
| Hubbard; and her five grandchildren; and
