| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
| 3 |
| were saddened to learn of the death of David W. Meister, Jr. of |
| 4 |
| Peoria on December 2, 2003; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Meister was born on October 9, 1923 in Chicago |
| 6 |
| to David W. Sr. and Lillian M. Kaufman Meister; he married Mary |
| 7 |
| M. MacFarlane on July 6, 1946 in Peoria; she preceded him in |
| 8 |
| death in 1974; he married Diana McElhiney on October 16, 1985, |
| 9 |
| in Peoria; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Meister received a bachelor's degree from |
| 11 |
| Bradley University, where he was class president, founded the |
| 12 |
| Bradley Invitational Speech Tournament, and was vice president |
| 13 |
| of the Alumni Association; he received Bradley's Distinguished |
| 14 |
| Service Award; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, He taught speech at Bradley in 1947 and became |
| 16 |
| director of radio in 1948; he was advertising manager of the |
| 17 |
| Daily Southern Illinoisan in Carbondale from 1949 until |
| 18 |
| returning to Bradley in 1951 as publicity director and later as |
| 19 |
| director of public relations; he then was sales promotion |
| 20 |
| director of West Central Broadcasting Co.; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Meister was a World War II Army Air Force |
| 22 |
| Veteran; and
|
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, He provided consulting services to insurance and |
| 24 |
| health-care organizations in Central Illinois since 1991; he |
| 25 |
| was founder and executive vice president of the Mid-State |
| 26 |
| Foundation for Medical Care Inc., founder and former president |
| 27 |
| of ComProCare Inc., and founder and former CEO of the Central |
| 28 |
| Illinois Medical Association; in addition, he served as |
| 29 |
| executive vice president of the Peoria Medical Society for 16 |
| 30 |
| years and of the Tazewell County and McLean County medical |

| societies; and
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Meister served on the boards of several |
| 3 |
| corporations, including Meister Brothers Inc. and |
| 4 |
| Krantz-Meister Inc., where he was chairman, and Central Trane |
| 5 |
| Air Conditioning Co. Inc., where he was vice president; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, He received many honors, including being named |
| 7 |
| "Medicine's Man of the Year" for Central Illinois in 1961; he |
| 8 |
| was active in numerous civic and community organizations and |
| 9 |
| served as president of the Visiting Nurse Association, |
| 10 |
| treasurer of Junior Achievement of Central Illinois Inc., and |
| 11 |
| chairman of the Peoria Civil Defense Advisory Council; he |
| 12 |
| served on the boards of the Central Illinois Chapter of the |
| 13 |
| American Red Cross, Peoria Area Hospital Council, and the |
| 14 |
| American Association of Medical Society Executives; he was |
| 15 |
| co-chairman of the Statewide Public Health Committee; he was |
| 16 |
| also a member of the Peoria Rotary Club and received numerous |
| 17 |
| professional and honorary memberships; he was an affiliate |
| 18 |
| member of the American Medical Association and was a fellow of |
| 19 |
| the Education and Research Foundation of the Illinois Medical |
| 20 |
| Society; in addition, he was a member of the Sheridan Road |
| 21 |
| Apostolic Christian Church; and
|
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, David Meister's passing will be deeply felt by |
| 23 |
| many, especially his wife, Diana; his three sons, David "Skip" |
| 24 |
| (and Patricia) Meister III, Andrew Slotter, and Mark (and |
| 25 |
| Rebecca) Meister; three brothers, Edward (and Bernie), Walter |
| 26 |
| (and Jean), and Paul (and Rhoda); six grandchildren; five |
| 27 |
| great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and
|
| 28 |
| WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by one brother and one |
| 29 |
| sister; therefore, be it
|
| 30 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
