| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |

| learned with great sadness of the passing of the Reverend John |
4 |
| E. Lass of Taylorville on November 14, 2003; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, The Reverend John E. Lass was born on February 9, |
6 |
| 1919, in Stonington to Romie and Carrie Sims Lass; he married |
7 |
| Lucy Ferguson on October 31, 1942, in Presque Isle, Maine; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, Reverend Lass was a retired machinist with Borg |
9 |
| Warner and founding pastor of the Life Tabernacle Church in |
10 |
| Taylorville; he served in the United States Air Force; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, In 1973, Reverend Lass demonstrated that his |
12 |
| Pentecostal beliefs were the guiding force in his life by being |
13 |
| the founding pastor of Life Tabernacle Church in Taylorville |
14 |
| and serving as its senior pastor until his death; Reverend Lass |
15 |
| was a spiritual leader at the church, someone who was always |
16 |
| positive and strongly believed in the power of faith, hope, and |
17 |
| charity; and |
18 |
| WHEREAS, Reverend Lass always carried a happy and joyous |
19 |
| disposition that warmed the hearts and brightened the days of |
20 |
| all those he touched, especially his family; and |
21 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of the Reverend John E. Lass has been |
22 |
| deeply felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his |
23 |
| beloved wife, Lucy Lass; his son, David John (Linda Anne) Lass; |
24 |
| his daughter, Janie M. (James "Skip") Moenck; his |
25 |
| grandchildren, Regan A. Mansfield, Anthony W. Moenck, Kaitlan |

| N. Moenck, Hunter L. Moenck, Rydge A. Moenck, Michelle L. |

| McMillian, David J. Lass, Jr., Anne M. Harrison-White, Heather |
