| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
| 3 |
| were saddened to learn of the death Marianne Therese Palm of |
| 4 |
| Vernon Hills on December 28, 2003; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Ms. Palm was born on October 5, 1922, in Dio, |
| 6 |
| Smaland, Sweden, the daughter of John Martin and Gerda Therese |
| 7 |
| Swanson; and |
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Ms. Palm and her mother came to the United States |
| 9 |
| in August 1923 to join her father in Chicago; the family lived |
| 10 |
| in the Andersonville neighborhood of Chicago until 1949 when |
| 11 |
| they moved to their summer home in Channel Lake, which they |
| 12 |
| made into a year-round home; and |
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Ms. Palm graduated from Trummbal Elementary |
| 14 |
| School, Amundsen High School, and the Moser Business School in |
| 15 |
| Chicago; while working for the Southern Pacific Railroad, she |
| 16 |
| lived in California and Arizona; returning to the Chicago area, |
| 17 |
| she settled in Grayslake and worked for Navy Pier and the Great |
| 18 |
| Lakes Naval Training Center; she retired after 20 years of |
| 19 |
| civil service; and |
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, In June 2002, after residing in Grayslake for more |
| 21 |
| than 40 years, Marianne moved to Vernon Hills to live with her |
| 22 |
| daughter Monica and son-in-law Robert Lundeen; and |
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, In October 2002, Marianne celebrated her 80th |
| 24 |
| birthday at a surprise party with family and friends she made |
| 25 |
| throughout the years, including friends from elementary |
| 26 |
| school, high school, and her childhood church; and |
| 27 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Marianne Therese Palm will be |
| 28 |
| deeply felt by many, especially her son, Michael; her |
| 29 |
| daughters, Candi Becker, Pamela Rasmussen, Monica Lundeen, and |
