| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Dr. James R. McAnelly on |
4 |
| Tuesday, January 6, 2004; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. McAnelly was born on March 16, 1932, in |
6 |
| Bloomington to Clyde and Virginia (Jett) McAnelly; he was |
7 |
| educated at Mooseheart and was on the 1950 undefeated football |
8 |
| team; during his senior year, he was awarded All-State in |
9 |
| football; he was a member of the Hall of Fame at Mooseheart; |
10 |
| and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. McAnelly received a B.S. degree from the |
12 |
| University of Colorado, Boulder, where he received an athletic |
13 |
| scholarship for football; he received a master's degree and |
14 |
| Ed.D. degree from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. McAnelly was one of the founding teachers at |
16 |
| Waubonsee Community College (WCC), Sugar Grove, where he taught |
17 |
| business for 30 years; in addition to teaching at WCC, he was a |
18 |
| foreign studies director, and led groups to the United Kingdom, |
19 |
| Europe, and China; he also taught at Northern Illinois |
20 |
| University at DeKalb, East Aurora High School, and Haines |
21 |
| Junior High School in St. Charles; and
|
22 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. McAnelly was the author of two college |
23 |
| textbooks, "Business Mathematics for College" and |
24 |
| "Fundamentals of Retailing", which are in the Library of |
25 |
| Congress; he was a member of Delta Pi Epsilon and was listed in |
26 |
| "Who's Who in American Law" in 1985; for 30 years, he was an |
27 |
| IHSA certified swimming official and did most of his |
28 |
| officiating at Marmion Academy; he was an Eagle Scout; he |
29 |
| played the euphonium for the American Legion for many years; |
30 |
| after retiring from teaching, he taught discus for the track |
31 |
| team at Holy Angels School for three years; and
