| SENATE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The World Health Organization has designated |
| 3 |
| April 7, 2004, as World Health Day; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, The theme of the 2004 World Health Day is Road |
| 5 |
| Safety; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Over 42,000 Americans die in motor vehicle crashes |
| 7 |
| every year; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Motor vehicles crashes are the leading cause of |
| 9 |
| death for people ages one to 34 in the United States; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Death and injury from motor vehicle crashes may be |
| 11 |
| significantly reduced by greater public awareness, |
| 12 |
| enforcement, and strengthening of existing laws; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Research indicates that between 1979 and 1999 |
| 14 |
| safety belts have been effective in saving approximately |
| 15 |
| 123,000 lives in the United States; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, AAA and other safety groups across the country |
| 17 |
| will be emphasizing the importance of safety belt use in 2004; |
| 18 |
| and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Minor steps like wearing safety belts, obeying |
| 20 |
| traffic laws, avoiding distracted driving, and knowing your |
| 21 |
| personal driving limits will reduce traffic crashes and |
| 22 |
| injuries; therefore be it
|
| 23 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL |
| 24 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we designate April 7, |
| 25 |
| 2004 as World Health Day in the State of Illinois; and be it |
