| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
| 3 |
| learned with sadness of the death of Lillie Maud Mason of East |
| 4 |
| St. Louis on Wednesday, February 18, 2004; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Lillie Maud Mason was born on December 20, 1902, |
| 6 |
| in Shuqualak, Mississippi; she attended Shuqualak public |
| 7 |
| schools and Mary Holmes Institute, and she was a former teacher |
| 8 |
| in the Shuqualak, Mississippi public schools; and |
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, In 1941, in order to insure that her children |
| 10 |
| would have a better opportunity to receive a good education, |
| 11 |
| the family moved to East St. Louis, where she made many |
| 12 |
| friends; she joined the Friendship Baptist Church, where she |
| 13 |
| sang in the Gospel Chorus and served as secretary of the |
| 14 |
| Missionary Society; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Mrs. Mason has been deeply felt by |
| 16 |
| many, especially her sons, Dr. William (Dr. Rosalyn) Mason and |
| 17 |
| Curtis Mason; her daughters, Dr. Mildred (Jack) Whitted and |
| 18 |
| Tonsie (Glen) Hickerson; her sisters, Mable Coleman and Ella |
| 19 |
| Gaston; her six grandchildren; and her seven |
| 20 |
| great-grandchildren; she was preceded in death by her husband, |
| 21 |
| Willie Mason; her granddaughter, Brenda Allen; her sisters, |
| 22 |
| Hazle Johnson, Celesta Jenkins, Vera Harris, and Salina |
| 23 |
| Premius; and her brother, Edgar Brookshire; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL |
| 25 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 26 |
| Lillie Maud Mason, and we extend our sincere condolences to her |
| 27 |
| family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
| 28 |
| further

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
